Marcella Edmonds

Marcella is a native of New York City, New York. She was raised in New York with her siblings until the age of 12 when the family moved to Kentucky.

 

A graduate of Barren County Highschool in Glasgow, Kentucky, Marcella pursued higher education at Western Kentucky University where she received her bachelor’s degree in library science. Shortly after graduation Marcella moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

 

Not long after arriving in Des Moines, Marcella begin working for the Iowa Department of the Blind. She is an Instructional Material Center Librarian and has worked for IDB for 32 years!

 

Marcella has one daughter, Honor, and is an active member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She was the Assistant Financial Church Secretary for 7 years before becoming the Financial Church Secretary. A position which she has held for 6 years. Marcella has also served as the Treasurer of the East Side Mission Union Society since 2015.

In addition to volunteering with the NAACP and serving at church, Marcella has volunteered with Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corp as an Instructor from 1997-2000, Investing In My Future from 2014-2018, has been an usher and ticket taker at the Des Moines Playhouse since 2012 and has served as the Assistant Treasurer for Friends of the Forest Avenue Library from 2019 to present.
